Job Summary:

Although we are currently in the North American market, we see great opportunity to expand our markets.  To support this, we are currently looking for a Senior Reinsurance Underwriter - Casualty Programs / Specialty Treaty in our New York City or Warren, NJ (HQ) office. This position will be a part of our U.S. Facultative Hybrid team working 3 days onsite, 2 remote.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Key responsibilities for the position include new and renewal underwriting of programs/treaties that include general liability, automobile liability, excess and umbrella liability, professional liability and workers compensation liability while adhering to underwriting rules, pricing and selection standards/guidelines, and profitability metrics.

  • Developing and cultivating new and existing carrier, reinsurance broker, and program intermediary relationships to maintain an opportunity pipeline that will lead to the achievement of department premium & production goals.

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through exceptional service to internal and external customers.

  • Design and manage specific Program Performance Plans assigned to reach our projected premium and profitability goals.

  • Collaborate with all functional areas of the company including claims, accounting, contract wording, and actuarial to support company objectives.

  • Maintain awareness of competitor capabilities and strategies, market trends in the insurance and reinsurance marketplace.

  • Attend industry conferences/meetings as necessary

  • Travel as required to achieve the above.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or above and insurance certifications, or equivalent experience.

  • 7-10 years of commercial casualty reinsurance underwriting (facultative or treaty).  Program or professional lines experience is a plus.

  • Prior knowledge of reinsurance contracts is not necessary but a plus.

  • Ability to stay organized within a fast paced, team-oriented, and dynamic work environment with the ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize tasks.

  • Be self-motivated and able to effectively and efficiently work remotely when, and if, necessary.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of underwriting pricing for auto liability, general liability, and excess/umbrella liability.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong relationship management and business development skills.

  • Possess excellent analytical skills.

  • Possess good computer skills, including working knowledge of various Microsoft programs, including Excel.

For NYC Only: The base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
